Manager of School Programs

Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum seek a Manager of School Programs. This is a full-time year-round position with generous benefits package.

This position requires strong content knowledge in art and history with a BA or MA in Education, Museum Studies or related field. Familiarity with Microsoft software and Virtual Chat applications is required. Must be able to operate webcams and accessories.

The successful candidate will possess an open and collaborative management style; strong written and verbal communication skills; be comfortable speaking in front of groups; understand K-12 museum audiences and their needs; have demonstrated experience of leading formal and informal educational activities; be organized and able to problem solve under pressure. Must possess a positive attitude and excellent work ethic.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop onsite and virtual school programming that reflects the museums’ missions.
  • Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate museum teaching staff.
  • Coordinate school group activities
  • Manage and process school group bookings and payments.
  • Assist in the design and development of brochures, postcards and related school group advertising materials.
  • Assist with preparation and management of school program budgets.

Human Resources Coordinator – Generalist Position

Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum have a full-time opening for an HR Coordinator. The successful candidate will be highly professional, confidential, and have an excellent work ethic; be able to prioritize work; have excellent verbal and written communication skills; and be proficient in Microsoft Office software applications. Previous HR experience is a plus but not absolutely necessary, as this is a unique opportunity for the right individual who seeks an HR career opportunity. Must be familiar with or able to learn how to use an HRIS payroll system and be familiar with or able to learn Federal and NYS employment regulations and compliance rules. Training and ongoing mentoring will be provided. Responsibilities include various administrative activities involving health and welfare benefits, payroll, retirement, employment policies and procedures, recruitment and staff training. Previous office experience in a mid to large company is required, along with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. The salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is generally 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some flexibility, and comes with a generous benefits package. Groundskeeper

Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum have an opening for a full-time groundskeeper. The successful candidate will be a steady, reliable worker and enjoy working outdoors year-round. Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment and  lift up to 75 lbs. Experience with basic construction and carpentry a plus. Duties include maintaining grounds, mowing, clearing roads and pathways of debris and tree limbs, soil preparation, planting, weed removal, plowing and shoveling snow, cleaning and maintaining power equipment,  and performing light carpentry and repair jobs.

This is a full-time position, Sunday through Thursday 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Must be willing to occasionally work overtime or alternate schedule. This position offers an excellent benefits package and pleasant work environment. Security/Safety Guard

Full-Time, Year-Round position with benefits 

Your workday would include using computer-based monitoring systems, walking extensive museum grounds, completing incident reports, and trouble-shooting for potential hazards. Applicants must be able to walk considerable distances in all weather conditions; have a clean driving record; and must be able and willing to work weekends, holidays and any shift assigned. We provide training and certification.

 

 

Custodian

Full-Time, Year-Round position with benefits

The Farmers’ Museum and Fenimore Art Museum seek reliable, responsible custodians to help maintain and care for our facilities. We take great pride in the external and internal appearance of our facility and see it as a reflection of our business. We are looking for someone who sees it the same way. The ideal candidate would be careful and thorough in their work, cleaning and tidying the premises with great care and an eye for detail. If you are an experienced custodian who is reliable, focused, committed to building upkeep, and have great physical stamina, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Thoroughness and commitment to ensuring public and work spaces are ready for the next day and/or event, including taking out trash, tidying, rearranging furniture, and wiping surfaces as needed
  • Sweeping and mopping of floors, as well as vacuuming carpets
  • Daily cleaning and sanitizing of all bathroom facilities, including toilets and sinks
  • Restock necessary items (e.g. soap, paper products)
  • Cleaning of mirrors and windows as needed
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance work and minor repairs is a plus (replacing broken switches, repairing door handles, replacing lightbulbs etc.)
  • Commitment to reporting major damages to management and willingness to oversee repairs, if asked to do so

 

 

Visitor Services Associate

Part-Time, Seasonal (April – December) position

Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum seek friendly individuals to fill part-time, seasonal positions during the museum season (April – December). You would assist visitors in the museum stores and at admissions kiosks. Successful applicants will work well with a team; deliver exemplary customer service; have previous sales experience; knowledge of daily retail shop operations; must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

 

 

Museum Teacher

Minimal Hours, Seasonal (Academic School Year) position

The Farmers’ Museum and Fenimore Art Museum seek enthusiastic and engaging seasonal museum teachers to share their knowledge and expertise of the trades of the 19th century. If you enjoy speaking with students and visitors of all ages this is the job for you! Ample training provided. Qualified candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills and be comfortable speaking in a one-on-one or group setting. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.

 

 

Food Service Worker

Part-Time, Seasonal (April – December) position

Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum are seeking Cafe Attendants for the Fenimore Cafe and Crossroads Cafe. Cafe Attendants prepare and serve all food and beverages to visitors of the museums. Cooking and/or food prep experience is preferred but we are willing to train enthusiastic individuals. Serv-Safe is a plus as is cashier or POS experience. Successful candidates will have a professional appearance and display strong customer service skills; always putting the customer first. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and occasional evening events.
