Fragrant Waters and Essences

Learn how to create your own bottles of fragrant waters such as lavender and rose. Also for your holiday baking needs you can create peppermint extract, vanilla and lemon essence. All these great items are for you to take home or give away as unique, hand-made presents.

Come learn the basic crochet skills to make a darling snowflake or star coaster! What a great holiday gift item!

Soap Making

Discover the simple method of cold-process soapmaking from scratch!
Learn how to (safely) combine lye with a variety of fixed oils ranging from olive oil to lard. We will be exploring the use of additives and their properties, along with carrier oils, fragrance oils, essential oils, scents, nutrients, exfoliants, and colorants to create just the right bar of soap for you. You will make your own 1 lb. batch of soap to take home – enough for 5 large bars!

Due to the use of lye in this class, please wear full-length sleeves and leg coverings, as well as closed-toe shoes. You will also need to bring elbow-length rubber gloves and an apron. All other materials will be provided.

 

Blacksmithing, Crafting a Letter Opener - November 17th SOLD OUT!  Now available: November 10, 2018 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. 

This is an introductory class geared toward people who are interested in beginning to learn about the art of blacksmithing.  Participants will learn how to build a fire in the forge, heat metal, twist, cut, and bend while using the traditional tools and methods of a blacksmith.  Each participant will build and take home a uniquely hand-crafted letter opener.  This class is for participants 14 and older.

Location: Field Blacksmith Shop

Class Fee: Members $90, including lunch.  Non-members $100, including lunch. All materials included.

Please wear natural-fiber only clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty (wool, cotton, leather, but NO synthetics) with full-length sleeves and legs. No open-toed shoes.

Printing Holiday Cards

Delight your family and friends by sending them a unique handmade holiday card! Choose from our collection of type, ornaments and illustrations to create your own text and design, learn how to set it by hand and lock it in a chase before taking it to our 1862 Liberty Press to print.  

Location: Middlefield Printing Office

Baking for the Holidays

Spend your day in the kitchen of the Lippitt Farm House learning how to bake traditional holiday breads and cakes! Fire and bake in the brick bake oven, as well as a bake kettle, or Dutch oven. Share your delicious goods at the end of the session or take them home to impress your family!

Broom Maker, Crafting a Holiday Gift Broom

How does a broom become a broom?  Learn this and more in a holiday workshop in which you will transform a wooden handle, broom corn straw, and wire into a beautiful and functional handmade broom.  Take home your own creation to clean house, or give away as a special holiday gift.
