Junior Livestock Show Winners Announced
The 73rd Annual Junior Livestock Show
Top honors at the 73rd Annual Junior Livestock Show in Cooperstown went to young handlers from Schoharie and Herkimer. The show, sponsored by The Farmers’ Museum and conducted in cooperation with Cornell Cooperative Extension, county 4-H educators, and clubs throughout central New York, brings together youth handlers from a nine-county area for three days of competition.
The top winners at the Junior Livestock Show bested over 170 exhibitors and their 360 animals. Earning The Farmers’ Museum Cup for Best of Show Dairy was Ava Canary, Schoharie County who showed her Holstein, Canary Doorman Ruby. The F. Ambrose Clark Livestock Cup for Best of Show in the beef, swine, sheep and meat goat categories was awarded to Laken Dyn of Herkimer County showing her Maintainer Beef Cow, HAS Kylie 527. The Farmers’ Museum Dairy Goat Cup for Best of Show Dairy Goat went to Alexandria Lincoln of Schoharie County showing her Nigerian Dwarf, Enchanted Acres Molly.
Dairy cattle Grand Champions were awarded in the Ayrshire division to Hannah Tuttle of Delaware County who showed Fran’s Flake; in the Brown Swiss division to Elizabeth Schieferstine of Oneida County who showed Pearl Dell Drake Whitney; in the Guernsey division to Lily Mills of Madison County who showed Twin County AP Tapestry-ETV; in the Holstein division to Ava Canary of Schoharie County, who showed Canary Doorman Ruby; in the Jersey division to Shaun Shults of Schoharie County who showed Kimball Venetian Faith; and in the Milking Shorthorn division to Olivia VanEvera of Schoharie County who showed Hard Core L Strike Diamond P.
In each of the livestock divisions, Supreme Animal awards went to Laney Mondore of Delaware County in the Swine category; to Laken Dyn of Herkimer County in the Beef category; to Lilly Mills from Madison County in the Sheep category and to Evelyn Kersmanc of Otsego County in the Meat Goat category.
In the Best Bred and Owned division, the award in the Brown Swiss category to Elizabeth Schieferstine of Oneida County with Pearl Dell Drake Whitney; in the Guernsey category to Julia Vunk of Otsego County withGray Goose Charming Cindy; in the Jersey category to Mason Zeimba of Oneida County with ZBW Masons Kid Rock Songs; in the Holstein division to Ava Canary of Schoharie County with Canary Doorman Ruby; and in the Milking Shorthorn division to Ella Field of Otsego County with New Beginnings Comanche Rhyme. The Dairy Goat category went to Emily VanLieshout of Oneida County with Brabant Farm MMM Minnie; the Sheep category went to Mollie Goblet-Schubert of Schoharie County with Hessian Hill 1963; the Swine Category went to Devon Fairchild of Chenango County; the Beef category went to Laken Dyn of Herkimer County with HAS Kylie 527; the Meat Goat category to Evelyn Kersmanc of Otsego County with Pansy.
Showmanship Championships were earned by the following: in the Dairy division, Grand Champion Showman was Justin Wolfe of Otsego County and the Reserve Grand Champion Showman, Lily Marshman of Chenango County. In the Dairy Goat division: Grand Champion Showman Paige Warren of Chenango County and Reserve Grand Champion Showman, Cole Warren of Chenango County. In the Sheep division: Grand Champion Showman went to Jessica Zuill of Delaware County and Reserve Grand Champion Showman to Madison Miller of Delaware County. In the Beef division: Grand Champion Showman went to Gavin Fetterman of Otsego County and Reserve Grand Champion Showman to Lakin Dyn of Herkimer County. In the Swine division: Grand Champion Showman to Devon Fairchild of Chenango County, and Reserve Grand Champion Showman to Laney Mondore of Delaware County. The Junior Livestock Show, a summer tradition in Central New York, took place virtually this year. The event and grounds were not open to the public due to current COVID-19 Guidelines for large gatherings. All shows were streamed live via Zoom from Sunday, July 11 through Tuesday, July 13.
Since 1947, The Farmers’ Museum has collaborated with the Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program to produce the show. It is conducted in cooperation with Cornell Cooperative Extension County 4-H educators and clubs throughout central New York. On-site services provided by the Leatherstocking Corporation. The show is sponsored in part by Chobani.
