Story Time
Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. •

Come to an active family story hour in the Filer’s Corners School—perfect for kids in pre-school through first grade, accompanied by a grown-up. Hear a story read aloud then play a game, sing a song, or make a craft. Story Time is included with museum admission, which is free for people under age 7 and members.

 

July 4 - HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, JENNY SWEENY
It's the 4th of July and all over town, people are getting ready. Jenny Sweeney gives her dog, Rags, a bath. All the preparations lead up to the big parade and a night of bright fireworks. It's a great day. "Happy Birthday, USA!"
STORYTIME ACTIVITY: We will be making a flag and drawing fireworks.
 

July 11 - MORTIMER"S FIRST GARDEN
Winter is just over, the sky is gray, and the ground is brown. Little Mortimer Mouse munches on sunflower seeds and longs to see something green. He decides to plant one of his seeds. He waits and waits to see if something wonderful, something miraculous, something green happens!
STORYTIME ACTIVITY: We will be making BEAN BABIES and taking a walk to see what is growing in the Lippitt Farmhouse garden.

July 18 - HENS DON'T CROW!
Rooster falls ill. Who will wake the animals? Can Hen do it?
STORYTIME ACTIVITY: Go around to the farm animals and see what sounds they make. Can we find the rooster?

JULY 25 - HENRY'S MAP
The Farm is in a mess and Henry comes up with a plan. " A place for everything and everything in its place," says Henry!
STORYTIME ACTIVITY:
Make your own Henry the Pig craft and sing a farm song. Everyone will receive a map of our farm!

 

AUGUST 1 - GOING TO TOWN
Laura Ingalls is very excited when Paul tells his wonderful surprise… He is taking the whole family into town!
STORYTIME ACTIVITY: Create "letters" to mail at Todd's general store. We will also get to choose some items to barter with the shopkeeper for a special treat.

AUGUST 8 - OTIS
Otis is a very special tractor with a very special little farm friend. Who will save the day when his friend gets in trouble?
STORYTIME ACTIVITY: Take a walk to visit our calf down on the farm.

 

AUGUST 15 - THE QUILTMAKERS GIFT
When a generous quilt maker finally agrees to make a quilt for a greedy king, but only under certain conditions, she causes him to undergo a change of heart.

STORYTIME ACTIVITY:
We will be making very special quilt blocks!

 

AUGUST 22 - SHEEP GO TO SLEEP

It's time for bed, but the sheep can't settle down! Do they need a hug? A drink? A blanket? 

STORYTIME ACTIVITY:
Make a sheep pin. Go down to visit the sheep. How do our sheep get ready for bed?

 

AUGUST 29 - HENRY'S STARS

One beautiful evening on the farm, Henry stares up at the sky. He sees it! A great big starry pig! Henry can't wait to show his friends the picture he sees in the stars. But wait! Do they see the same thing?
