Letterpress Printing
October 5, 2013, from 9:00 am–4:00 pm

Create your own letterpress “masterpiece” using nineteenth-century type, cuts, and presses. You will be walked through the process of setting and locking in type, inking and printing copies of your project.

Ages: 12 and older (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)

Learn how a brick oven works by firing it and then baking in it. A variety of baked goods will be prepared by participants to bake in the oven.

Fragrant Waters
November 9, 2013, from 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Learn about fragrant waters and their historic uses. You’ll make a bottle of lavender water and a bottle of rose water that you can take home with you, and learn about how our staff makes hot sauce, vanilla extract, and other tinctures in the pharmacy.

Open Hearth Cooking
November 16, 2013, from 10:00 am–4:00 pm

An in-depth, full-day workshop cooking over the open fire and on the hearth. You learn to start and maintain a fire, boil, roast, fry, grill on the hearth, and bake in a bake kettle and the ashes using historic recipes.

Ages: 12 and older (under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult)

Fee: $75 / $70 for NYSHA members
