Pickup Trucks: Drive-in & Tailgate Party
June 15–16, from 10 am–5 pm
COOPERSTOWN, NY (06-06-2013) — Take part in a moving adventure at The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, Saturday and Sunday, June 15–16 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Pickup Trucks: Drive-in & Tailgate Party, one of a series of “Step Back in Time” Weekends, is your opportunity to see a wide range of pickup trucks competing for prizes. Enjoy a barbecue, see our cute farm animals, and more, all on the beautiful grounds of the museum.
Enter your own truck in the competition. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories. To enter a truck, call (607) 547-1423 or visit The Farmers' Museum website.
This weekend also celebrates the museum’s new exhibition The Pickup Truck: America’s Driving Force, which follows the route of the pickup truck from its very beginnings. Images of historical trucks from the museum’s photography collection illustrate its evolution.
A rarity on display is a 1907 Chase Model D “Open Express” Motor Truck, manufactured in Syracuse. Visitors will also a restored 1922 Ford Model TT, a 1925 Ford Model TT, and a 1937 Ford.
The museum store now carries durable wooden trucks that are tons of fun to piece together in different ways. Every piece is interchangeable: wheels, tires, roofs, bodies, front-ends, and passengers. Kids can rebuild the same truck over and over, or switch parts with another truck in the Automoblox line. Younger kids (ages 4 and up) will be able to master the pieces with practice and feel a sense of accomplishment.
All “Step Back in Time” Weekends are held at The Farmers’ Museum from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Entry is included with your paid museum admission: Adults and juniors (13-64): $12.00; seniors (65+): $10.50; youth (7-12): $6.00; children (6 and under): Free.
