Step Back in Time Weekend — Civil War Life
August 16–17, 2014, from 10 am–5 pm

Experience what life was like for the typical New York State Civil War soldier.

Schedule (subject to change)

Saturday, August 16

  • All day: Meet members of the 61st and 125th New York Volunteer Infantry Reenactors as they go about the daily routine of a soldier in camp.
  • 10:30 am: Rural Felicity plays fife and drums
  • 11:00 am: Drill and firing demonstration. Participate by "enlisting" in the infantry and learn the manual of arms and company drill from experienced drill sergeants
  • 11:30 am: Civil War sing-along with Uncle Billy’s Balladeers
  • 1:00 pm: Drill and firing demonstration
  • 2:30 pm: Civil War Sing-Along with Uncle Billy’s Balladeers

Sunday, August 17

  • All day: Meet members of the 61st and 125th New York Volunteer Infantry Reenactors as they go about the daily routine of a soldier in camp.
  • 10:00 am: Church service and/or period hymns
  • 11:00 am: Rural Felicity plays fife and drums
  • 11:30 am: Drill and firing demonstrations
  • 12:00 pm: Civil War sing-along with Uncle Billy’s Balladeers
  • 1:30 pm: Drill and firing demonstrations
  • 2:30 pm: Civil War sing-along with Uncle Billy’s Balladeers

Plus all the delightful activities that happen every day at The Farmers’ Museum:

  • Take a spin on the Empire State Carousel.
  • Print a poster on the Liberty Press.
  • Build your own bluebird house or toolbox.
  • Enjoy a heart-pounding band organ concert.
  • Watch how medicines were made in the 1840s.
  • See fiber transformed into yarn.
  • Experience life on a farm.
  • See rope being made.
  • Feed the baby animals in Children's Barnyard.
  • Watch the farmer milk a cow.
  • And all the other activities in the historic buildings!

Admission to all Step Back in Time weekends is included with regular museum admission. Members of the New York State Historical Association enjoy free admission. Join today!

Through Labor Day, active-duty military and up to five family members are admitted free, through the Blue Star Museum program.
