From lunchtime tours to evening book signings, lectures at The Farmers' Museum cover many topics in history and culture and introduce visitors to provocative speakers from throughout the world.

Food for Thought programs are a lunch and lecture series which offer visitors a more in depth understanding of our exhibits and programs.  All programs begin at noon on Wednesdays and include lunch. $15 members/$20 non-members. Registration is required at least three days in advance. Cancellations without advanced warning will be charged. Please call (607) 547-1410 to reserve. 

Food for Thought - Empire State Iron | October 6 2010 | 12:00pm-2:00pm

Join Steven Kellogg, Supervisor of the Fields Blacksmith Shop, for a discussion of 19th century iron making in New York State and the role it fulfilled in blacksmith shops during the Industrial Revolution.  Learn about Adirondack iron making, product refinement, transportation of iron to blacksmith shops, and the end products and hardware created.

Food for Thought - Heirloom Vegetables | November 3 2010 | 12:00pm-2:00pm

What makes heirloom vegetables special, and why are they important? Join Gwen Miner, Supervisor of Domestic Arts, for a discussion of heirloom vegetables and how she uses them at the museum followed by a demonstration and taste test.

Food for Thought - Decorating for the Holidays | December 8 2010 | 12:00pm-2:00pm

Join Gwen Miner, Supervisor of Domestic Arts, for a program sure to prepare everyone for filling homes with holiday cheer.  The presentation will focus on typical traditions of home decoration in the nineteenth century and will include an opportunity to make a small decoration to take home.
