Programs|Daily Mini-Workshops

Monday - Thursday at 1:00 p.m. through July and August

These one hour, hands-on workshops operate on a first-come, first-served basis - sign up in advance or at the workshop's location that day.  Cost: $10.00 per person.  Limit of 3-4 people per workshop.  For more information, contact Kajsa Sabatke at (607) 547-1453 or k.sabatke@nysha.org


Mondays:
Forge an S-Hook with the Blacksmith - Learn how to make an S-hook using the tools of a 19th century craftsman. (In the Blacksmith Shop, fourth grade and older, children must be accompanied by an adult, please wear closed-toed shoes)

Tuesdays:
Create Medicines of the 1840s - Discover how pharmacists in the 1840s made pills and lozenges - and then make your own. (In the Pharmacy, fourth grade and older, children must be accompanied by an adult)

Wednesdays:
Baking in a Hearth Oven - Bake a cake in an authentic hearth oven. (In the More House, 18 and older only - children can watch)

Mowing with a Scythe - Use a traditional Snath and Scythe to harvest grains and hay.  Learn how to master this tool - how to cut, use safely, and how to sharpen the scythe's Austrian hand-hammered blade. (Start at the Lippitt Farm House, 18 and older only, limit 3 people)

Thursdays:
Printing with a Washington Press - Perform a small print job on an actual Washington Press. (In the Middlefield Print Shop, fourth grade and older, children must be accompanied by an adult)
