Blacksmithing: Art of Iron and Fire
August 3-4, 2013, from 10 am–5 pm

Hear the bellows blow and watch hot iron worked by hammer at Blacksmithing Weekend, August 3–4 at The Farmers’ Museum. Families, scout groups, amateur blacksmiths, and anyone interested in seeing traditional craftspeople at work are invited to enjoy a day with us at the museum. Activities throughout the historic village and farmstead will captivate all family members.

Demonstrating traditional tool and hardware making, blacksmiths working on three forges will show the versatility of the blacksmith's craft. Visiting blacksmiths set up a forge outside on the Village Green complementing those in the 1827 Field Blacksmith Shop

Fun awaiting families includes talking to the farrier as Zeb the horse gets new shoes. Children can experience “blacksmithing” with clay. Families can take a class to build a wooden toolbox with forged nails and locally sourced wood!

All Step Back in Time Weekends are held at the museum from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Entry is included in the museum admission: Adults and juniors (13-64): $12.00; seniors (65+): $10.50; youth (7-12): $6.00; children (6 and under): Free. NYSHA members are always admitted free, as are active-duty and retired career military.

Through Labor Day 2013, active-duty military and up to five family members are free, through the Blue Star Museum program.  Visit FarmersMuseum.org for more information.
